1892 COCKTAIL FORK 6 ½- SET 8pC? The Aesthetic movement from 1860 to 1900 saw, for the first time, designers being recognized and even made famous for their excellent craftsmanship. These artists created furniture, metalwork, textiles, and ceramics characterized by geometric designs, stylized animal, floral, vegetable, and zoomorphic motifs inspired by medieval and Japanese aesthetics. At its heart was the desire to create “art for art’s sake” and to exalt taste, the pursuit of beauty, and self-expression over moral expectations and restrictive conformity. A perfect example is the 1847. Not a whole line of this pattern was made. American old craftsmanship quality material and design. It features an oval seashell-like shaped handle crowned with a crab on top morphing against into a more subdue but no less intricate under the sea scenery, a snail, shells an algae on both sides all along the hold and shapeshifting into a very well detailed crab claw as tines, stunning! Imaginative beehive motif sugar and creamer set by Rogers with a fun, faceted beehive design. Heavy metal creamer and sugar with lid. They both have fluted mouths with looped handles and their bodies are faceted, with appliques of bees and apple blossoms. The appliques remind me of Japanese metalwork. There is a finial with three circles on the sugar lid. The base is elevated slightly on a short foot. There are stamped marks on the base. TRIPLE PLATE with a clenched fist holding lightning bolts. Both have the number 1956 stamped underneath the name. Sugar bowl: 6 ¼ (15.9 cm) tall x 6 ½ (16.5 cm) wide x 4 ¼ (10.8 cm) diameter. Creamer: 4 ¾ (12.1 cm) tall x 4 ½ (11.4 cm) wide x 3 ¾ (9.5 cm) diameter. Weighs 1 lb 15.3 oz (885 g). I can see no cracks, dents or breaks. Most of the silver has been polished off, although they still have a small amount of shine in places. I love the beehive motif. They are so unique and artistic. ASSYRIAN HEAD ROGERS SMITH & CO. VICTORIAN AESTHETIC c1886 SOUP TUREEN 11 ¼. The ASSYRIAN HEAD pattern was designed by Henry W. Hirschfield and was assigned to the Meriden Britannia and given a patent date in 1886, it features a multi-motif Victorian Assyrian Revival pattern portraying different male or female Assyrian god faces depending of the piece type on its flatware pieces, and in bands with many of them in its hollowware ones in both accompanied with various exotic ornamental details. 1860 AESTHETIC ROGERS SMITH GODESS BUST CAST APPLIED ASSYRIAN HEAD TEAPOT. ROGERS, SMITH & CO. Organized in 1857 by William Rogers Sr. The firm was merged in 1861 with Rogers Brothers. The tools and the dies were bought in 1862 by Meriden Britannia Co transferring to Meriden the production of the 1847 Rogers Bros line under the direction of William Rogers. In 1863 Meriden Britannia Co bought the hollowware division. In 1865 the plating shop was transferred from New Haven to Meriden and merged with Meriden Britannia Co in 1866. 1st c1857 until they merged with Rogers & Bros. On August 12th, c1862. The design on the stand is the most unusual we have had and features a sea of coral surrounding a conch shell and sea weed on the base and the finish on the top of the stand resembles water with a crab in the center. The coral is so realistic you can almost imagine that it would be pink. We believe that there would have been a clear glass plate on the top which would allow the details on the top to be viewed through the glass. There are no monograms or visible repairs and the silver plate is lovely and over 140 years old. It stands about 7.5 inches tall and 9.5 inches wide measuring across the handles. The indention for holding a glass plate or the rim of the plate is 7 1/8 inches wide and the height of the lip is ABOUT 3/8 inches tall. Please ask questions or request additional pictures. This is a definitely a one of a kind and you wont find another.
