Absolutely lovely antique silver plate tea set in beautiful condition. No dents or damage, color and patina are fabulous! Beautiful repousse details on the spout and handles. Teapot is about 8″ and cream and sugar are about 4″ tall.

Stunning Antique William Rogers New York Candelabra Silver Plate 12.75 T Footed This is a three-light silver-plated candelabra featuring an ornate Rococo revival design with scrollwork, chased floral motifs, and a central socket flanked by two scrolling arms. It stands upon an elaborately cast footed base marked by curved legs and relief detailing. This is an antique silverplated candelabra base stamped with the maker hallmark featuring the letters WR, the text NEW YORK QUADRUPLE, and the pattern number 701. The metal surface exhibits scratches and minor oxidation consistent with age and use. The candelabra displays minor tarnishing and light surface wear consistent with age and polishing, but retains its structural integrity and overall silver sheen. Quadruple plate candelabras of this style were widely produced in the United States during the late 19th and early 20th centuries by various American silver and metal manufacturing companies, drawing inspiration from European baroque and rococo aesthetics. Manufacturers such as the Wilcox Silver Plate Co or similar New York silversmiths utilized electroplating techniques to create luxurious household items for the burgeoning middle and upper classes. Today, these decorative lighting pieces are collected for their Victorian charm and ability to serve as striking tablescapes.

I had the pleasure of attending a private estate sale in Moraga Estates, which is a gated community in the hills of Bel Air, CA. This is from the estate of a prosperous philanthropic family. The designer of the 8,000 sq ft home was noted architect and designer Cleo Baldon (the house was furnished by Cleo’s classic and iconic furniture) whose brother and sister in law were the home owners. They had an amazing collection of napkin ring holders and this is one. An antique Victorian silver plate napkin ring from Rogers Smith Meridian Silver Co. Unusual, it depicts two little boys with their arms raised holding the diamond shaped napkin ring with ornate designs and pierced edges. It is on a square base with four ball feet and it has a monogram of LMD. It is in nice condition except for needing polishing. Measures about 3″ tall x 3 1/4″ x 2 1/4 and weighs 5.6 oz before packing. They had an amazing collection of napkin ring holders, Asian art, jewelry and modern art. The Connecticut manufacturing process was immediately embraced by New York’s moneyed crowd, advertised as all the advantages of silver in durability and beauty at one-fifth the cost. These pieces were in my family’s silver collection that I recently inherited. I recall polishing the silver as a young girl over 70 years ago. I was always told it came from my great, great grandmother Georgianna Mott. The family were diamond merchants on Mott Street in NYC. She lived in New York except in the summers when the family cooled off in the Berkshires of Stockbridge, MA. One of their homes was in Greenwich Village which later became the home of her son Henry Allen Seymour and daughter in law, Helen Deming. The history is known on this silver. The 1862 date is stamped on the bottoms of some pieces. One of the original teapots is missing, damaged in a move nearly 50 years ago. The silver plated, more modern tray in the first photo is NOT for sale, Not included, only used for dimensions and appearance. One notice, the teapot always had a marking on the side that it was once repaired but this had to be before 1947 when it was given to my father; as the one assigned to polishing it in our home, I always noticed it.

This is a genuine antique American silver-plated bride’s/serving basket by Rogers Bros. The circular applied mark reads ROGERS BROS. ” with “EXTRA. PLATE in the center. The Smithsonian has a Rogers Bros. Tray bearing essentially this same circular Hartford mark, described as EXTRA HEAVY PLATE. It is 12.5 inches long and 9.5 inches wide approximately 11 inches from the base to top of the handle. This is an oval pedestal basket/centerpiece with a tall swing handle, probably intended for fruit, bread, cake or general table service. Silver plate over a base metal rather than sterling silver. An elaborate openwork twisted-wire swing handle. A particularly nice late-Victorian form. That’s significantly older than the typical 20th-century 1847 Rogers Bros. Pieces people commonly encounter. The Smithsonian example confirms that this exact style of circular Hartford maker’s plaque was used on Rogers Bros.
Antique 1880′s Victorian era silver-plated loving cup by Rogers & Brother. This piece is rare and features the highly sought-after “Assyrian Head” motif- a classical ornate Roman-style helmeted centurion profile adorning the sides of the cup & also at the handles, handle also has a leaf design on top of the head. The same warrior profile is also featured in the makers hallmark on the base, (hard to see). 1969 engraved in bottom middle is most likely a presentation date or an engraved date from an event or club. Shows wear from a over a century of age, includes visible surface scratches, scuffs and small marks. Heavy tarnish is present with patina. Has not been polished. There’s areas of “bleeding” (wear to the silver plate) where the base metal is visible, typical for pieces this vintage. No major dents observed. 4½” tall and 3½” wide at the base, with 2 handles and weighing about 11.5 oz. Please review all photos, thanks for looking.
