This is a genuine antique American silver-plated bride’s/serving basket by Rogers Bros. The circular applied mark reads ROGERS BROS. ” with “EXTRA. PLATE in the center. The Smithsonian has a Rogers Bros. Tray bearing essentially this same circular Hartford mark, described as EXTRA HEAVY PLATE. It is 12.5 inches long and 9.5 inches wide approximately 11 inches from the base to top of the handle. This is an oval pedestal basket/centerpiece with a tall swing handle, probably intended for fruit, bread, cake or general table service. Silver plate over a base metal rather than sterling silver. An elaborate openwork twisted-wire swing handle. A particularly nice late-Victorian form. That’s significantly older than the typical 20th-century 1847 Rogers Bros. Pieces people commonly encounter. The Smithsonian example confirms that this exact style of circular Hartford maker’s plaque was used on Rogers Bros.
Antique 1880′s Victorian era silver-plated loving cup by Rogers & Brother. This piece is rare and features the highly sought-after “Assyrian Head” motif- a classical ornate Roman-style helmeted centurion profile adorning the sides of the cup & also at the handles, handle also has a leaf design on top of the head. The same warrior profile is also featured in the makers hallmark on the base, (hard to see). 1969 engraved in bottom middle is most likely a presentation date or an engraved date from an event or club. Shows wear from a over a century of age, includes visible surface scratches, scuffs and small marks. Heavy tarnish is present with patina. Has not been polished. There’s areas of “bleeding” (wear to the silver plate) where the base metal is visible, typical for pieces this vintage. Antique 1868 Rogers & Smith Co. Engraved Silver Plate Insulated Pitcher. This is a very ornate pitcher in very good condition considering it is over 150 years old. The silver plate is in excellent condition with no areas that have worn thin over time. It has a number of dings and dents. There is one under the spout, around 5 or 6 on one side and small dent on the opposite side. The rim has a few bends and some dings along the edge. The lid is dented on one side and the finial on top is slightly bent as if it was dropped and landed on its head. It is also missing the pin that creates the hinge for the lid. The lid has Birthday Club engraved into it. Both sides are intricately engraved with a floral pattern of wheat, daisies and leaves. The interior is lined with a porcelain enameled metal that creates an air pocket as an insulator. The bottom is stamped with Rogers & Smith Co. Dates, June 13, 1868 and Nov. 3D, 1868 along with the number 193. It’s about 12″ high, 10 1/2″ from handle to spout and 6 1/2 in diameter at the base. It’s heavy, weighing 5 1/2 lbs.
