Measuring an impressive 27½ inches long, this tray features an elaborate hand-engraved feather and scrolling foliate design framed by a beautifully shaped scalloped gallery. This is an elegant, 58-piece, 1847 Rogers Bros “Ambassador” silverplate flatware set by International Silver Company, featuring a classic Art Deco design introduced around 1920. This is a genuine antique American silver-plated bride’s/serving basket by Rogers Bros. The circular applied mark reads ROGERS BROS. ” with “EXTRA. PLATE in the center. The Smithsonian has a Rogers Bros. Tray bearing essentially this same circular Hartford mark, described as EXTRA HEAVY PLATE. It is 12.5 inches long and 9.5 inches wide approximately 11 inches from the base to top of the handle. This is an oval pedestal basket/centerpiece with a tall swing handle, probably intended for fruit, bread, cake or general table service. Silver plate over a base metal rather than sterling silver. An elaborate openwork twisted-wire swing handle. A particularly nice late-Victorian form. That’s significantly older than the typical 20th-century 1847 Rogers Bros. Pieces people commonly encounter. The Smithsonian example confirms that this exact style of circular Hartford maker’s plaque was used on Rogers Bros.
