Silver Plate Rogers

This antique tea set from Rogers Smith & Co. Is a beautiful addition to any collection. Its Victorian styling makes it a unique set. Rogers Smith & Co. Was located in Meriden Ct. Between 1877 and 1904, which means this set is between 119 and 146 years old. It has been well-preserved and is in excellent condition. The set includes a teapot, creamer, sugar bowl and waste bowl. All are elegantly designed, with interesting detail at the handles and finials to the teapot and sugar bowl which look Machine age.

A heavy over-the-top teapot by Rogers Bros. That epitomizes the angularity and highly decorated objects of the Victorian era. The body of the large, heavy pot is decorated with etched floral bouquet, with the name “Boynton” etched on the front panel on one side. The teapot has a very pronounced spout extending from the lower quarter of the body. The handle has two round discs which separate the handle from the heat. This allows the hot teapot to be picked up comfortably when hot, without burning your hands. The lid is topped by a tall, round finial. The body rests on four elaborate disc feet and rests flat on a surface. The pot could be used for pouring either coffee or tea, but was likely intended for tea. It does have a mesh covering the entrance of the spout to prevent tea leaves from entering. A round brass plaque on the reads ROGERS & BRO. This encircles a hand holding lightning bolts. 10 ¾” (27.3 cm) tall x 9″ (22.9 cm) long x 5 12.7 cm diameter. Weighs 2 lb 4.5 oz (1035 g).

Rodgers Company Lady Margaret five piece silver plate tea set. The set includes the tray, two pitcher pots, a covered sugar bowl, and a creamer. All of the pieces are footed and sit on four legs. The tray measures 25″ (including the handles) by 14″. Tray has tarnishing in one of the corners. Each pouring pitcher has a hinged lid. One is 11 1/4″ tall and the other is 10 1/2″ tall. The creamer measures 3 1/2″ tall, and the sugar is 6 1/2″ tall (including the lid). Each piece is stamped on the bottom E. Rogers Silver Company 2377. All of the pieces show signs of use and wear. There is some light scratching in the silver and build up on the inside of the containers that needs to be cleaned. No dents on any of the pieces. They are heavy sturdy pieces and a beautiful set.
