From 1878 to 1893 the mark was used in silverplate flatware by Simpson, Hall, Miller & Co under permission of William Rogers Jr. This mark continued to be used until 1976 in silverplated flatware and from 1938 to 1976 in hollowwareWilliam Rogers now known as Wm. Rogers was born in 1801 and died in 1873, and was an American silversmith who was a groundbreaking pioneer of the silverplate industry. Rogers’ designs were influenced by Louis XIV-style patterns of the 17th and 18th century in France, and he was best known for his Elberon pattern and “Presidential” cutlery series. Large scarce piece perfect statement of the quality manufacture during this period depicting an elongated body, domed lid, solid acanthus shaping the arms, handle, spout applied around the base and feet done with substantial mirrored plating excellent detail to the solid finals and cast arms original burner with wick in excellent unused conditions strong firm arms handle and hinge, Bakelite insulator rings the whole piece with splendid finish and outstanding attention to detail.
