Magnificent tall Rogers and Smith Company, New Haven, Aesthetic Movement Silverplate Castor Cruet Set with 6 Engraved Bottles. At 20 3/8 tall, this imposing and elegant Cruet Set towers above the others. The round caddy is 9 in diameter and features engraved metal floral/oriental motif designs. On the second photo this is shown alongside another cruet set of the period as a size reference (this offer is for the set on the right only). The Aesthetic Movement of the later 1800s aspired to create “beauty for beauty’s sake” and borrowed from nature and oriental influences. This amazing piece features exotic perimeter designs and spectacular floral scroll open work handle depicting a cameo portrait of dapper gentleman on one side and his lady on the other. Four of the engraved cruet bottles are original, the two bottles with the flat silverplate tops were from different antique set. Condition is excellent, silvery surfaces virtually without damage. Marked on top of carousel in small round medallion, “Rogers Smith New Haven, ” bottom is marked 2144. One of the most beautiful of the aesthetic movement castor sets from the gilded age.
