ASSYRIAN HEAD Humidor 1886 Rogers & Smith Silverplate Seldom Seen
May 29, 2018
We are pleased to offer an ornate silverplated humidor from Rogers & Smith of Meriden Conn. The Assyrian Head flatware pattern is a multi motif design that was introduced in 1886. This piece features the faces and profiles of the men and women featured on the flatware. The humidor has two compartments with screened panels that face onto a space in the middle that would have held a damp sponge to keep the tobacco moist. It sits on 4 little bun feet and may have had a cover on the center compartment at one time but is still a great find! Condition: Very good – no silver wear or loss other than a couple of nicks on the covers (see photo). There are no monograms and the pattern is crisp and well defined. It has been hand polished so there will be no surprises. Any dark spots in the photos are reflections only. It is marked: Rogers Smith & Co Meriden Conn Quadruple 26 on the bottom. Size: 4 5/8″ x 8 1/4″ and 2 3/4 deep. Visit our sister store, DameDamaskAntiques, for antique linens for your table, bedroom and bath.
