The Ambassador’s Shaker. Silverplate Cocktail Shaker, Provenance Unknown (Though One Suspects: Remarkable). There are men who mix drinks. And then there was Gerald. And this was his instrument. This silverplate cocktail shaker stood on the sideboard of a Beacon Hill townhouse, a Havana hotel suite, and – if the small dent near the base tells the story we think it tells – the back of a very fast automobile somewhere outside of Nice, circa 1958. The handle that says. I have somewhere to be, and when I arrive, people will be pleased. It has tarnished, slightly, in the way that only genuinely interesting objects do. There is a difference, and Gerald always knew it. Whatever you pour into it will taste better. This is not magic. Vintage silverplate cocktail shaker. Shows honest wear consistent with a life fully lived. Lid functional, spout intact. Holds approximately 1 quart of whatever gets you through the evening. The party doesn’t start until this arrives.
