Early Set Of 7 Wm. Rogers Eagle & Star Dinner Forks, 7 3/8, Coin Silver
Jun 3, 2020
The mark is one that was used for Coin Silver. There is a wonderful website that had oodles of information on the numerous Rogers companies that have produced flatware over the past couple of hundred years, from sterling to coin to plate to pewter. I have had quite a lot of coin pass through my hands over the years and it has always been pretty inconsistent, as you would expect from stuff that was never mass produced in any real sense. I believe these forks to be coin for a number of reasons. The handles have a shape we only see in flatware from prior to 1900 and this particular pattern is one I couldn’t find at all. The aforementioned website identified this mark as one used for coin. A magnet is not attracted. I had thought they were plate, but also knew they were quite old and plate of this age always has wear that reveals a base metal – there is no base metal showing. I don’t care. For me and anyone intending to use them — they are beautiful, an old pattern, AND apparently will never require re-plating. If you determine they are plate – I will be stunned, but I also won’t be terribly sympathetic, because they are beautiful, old, and no base metal shows through. After all, if it’s broken, I sure don’t want to sell it to someone. I love multiple pur. Chases and there is nearly always a better deal on getting more than one item in a box. That deal is unpredictable however. Choosing a shipper depends on weight, dimensions, AND where you are. If you are new or unaccustomed to purchasing vintage pieces or just want to ask what I mean by “flamingo pink”, I will be glad to help you through the process. If you are chemically impaired, please shop in someone else’s store. Do I really have to say this? Get your address and telephone number into the system correctly. Those of you who are still reading — have a good time. If you see a correction I should make – tell me. I don’t always get it right and promise I won’t snap your head off.
