MADE IN THE UNITED STATES. You are purchasing a six cup egg cruet, six cups and six spoons. The cruet and six cups were manufactured by Rogers Bros. This is a company organized in 1853 by William and Asa Jr. In 1856 William Rogers organized with George W. Smith The Rogers, Smith & Company. The two companies were consolidated in 1861 under the Presidency of William Rogers. This indicates the manufacturing of this set to be circa 1861. I do not believe the six spoons are original. Three of the spoons are marked Viceroy Plate USA. One spoon is marked Viceroy A1 IS A1 indicates the highest level of silver plate. The final spoon is marked Royal P. I do not like to use the words RARE or HARD to find. In this case, I do think they are appropriate. Based on the fact that finding a complete soft boiled egg cruet/server and cups set in this excellent condition is highly unlikely. This set is an extraordinary example of early American metal working and silver plate craftsmanship. Condition: I consider the condition of this set to be excellent based on this soft boiled egg servers age and the fact it was used to serve soft boiled eggs. No attempt will be made to identify every pinhead sized area of silver loss, every scratch and any other minor condition. I will provide an examination of each component. Cruet: The stand and the handle assembly is excellent. I see some oxidation in the various crevices some of this may be intentional to provide contrast. These components have virtually no silver plating loss. The cup holder assembly does have some spot silver loss in some areas. There is also some silver loss where the cups sit on their posts and would come into contact with this plate type assembly. Cups: Four cups have very minor spot silver plate loss. 2 cups have an area of silver plate loss. Note: this was difficult to photograph as the base material does not appear to be copper which would show very plainly in the photograph. This base material gives off a silver appearance. Spoons: Note: I do not believe any of these spoons to be original. 3 of the Viceroy marked spoons are in excellent condition. 1 Viceroy marked spoon has a fairly large spot of sliver loss on the backside of the bowl portion of the spoon. The spoon marked Viceroy A1 has a spot of silver plate loss on the backside of the bowl portion of the spoon.
