Here are rare ASSYRIAN HEAD by 1847 Rogers Bros. These tongs feature a glossy handle and a fine matte finish on the serving end that accentuates the bright cut engraving. This matte finish was created very precisely, with an even consistency throughout and the engraving is expertly formed. There are some minor spots on the interior of the tongs, as can be seen in the photos, but other than that they are in great condition, without any plate loss. The piece measures 10-1/2″ long and 2-1/8″ wide.

Newport was patented by H. Hirschfeld in 1879, and many companies produced the silver plated pattern, also known as Chicago, using their own backstamps. International made a version of this pattern in sterling as well. Ice tongs of Aesthetic design and from the Victorian era that are also in good condition are hard to find. These tongs feature aesthetic design on the handles, tapering to a bowl on one side and a claw on the other. The claw is beautifully detailed. The tongs are monogrammed 1889 on the bend, and are marked 1847 Rogers Bros. We are pleased to offer an early and extremely scarce silverplated ice tongs in Persian, a classic pattern. It’s one of the first silverplate flatware patterns and as such, was made by a number of manufacturers; this piece came from 1847 Rogers Bros. The construction is practical – one end has a beautifully detailed claw foot to grab the ice, and the other end is a pierced spoon to drain any excess water. We’ve also heard it called a fried chicken server yes, seriously! And if you think about it, it would serve that purpose as well. This is a piece for the serious collector or for the entertainer who wants to create a conversation at your next cocktail party. Either way, it’s a fabulous and extremely hard to find piece. Condition: Excellent, like new, very little evidence of use – there is no silver wear or loss. The detail is magnificent and there are no monograms; and the pattern is crisp and well defined. It has been hand polished so there will be no surprises. Any dark spots in the photos are reflections only.
