For your consideration is a charming late Victorian silverplate Spooner by Wm. Rogers, complete with six antique H. Sears & Son silver plate demitasse spoons (Toronto) circa 1910 Edwardian Period. Originally designed to hold teaspoons at the dining table or sideboard, spooners were a popular fixture in well-appointed Victorian homes, providing both decorative appeal and practical service. This example features an elegant covered urn form raised on a pedestal base, with openwork handles and an integrated spoon rack surrounding the body. The domed lid is crowned by a finely detailed bird finial, adding a whimsical touch characteristic of late nineteenth-century tableware design. Sears & Son spoons complement the piece beautifully and remain housed in their original-style display arrangement. The spooner measures approximately 8 inches tall to the top of the finial and 8 inches wide from handle to handle. Very good antique condition. The silverplate remains bright with no plate loss observed. As expected with age and use, there are light surface scratches and areas of tarnish. One side exhibits noticeably more tarnish than the other, as shown in the photographs. The spoons display normal age-related wear consistent with use. Overall, this is a highly attractive and display-worthy Victorian silverplate set. Whether displayed in a silver collection, incorporated into a formal dining setting, or used as a conversation piece, this antique spooner offers exceptional Victorian character and charm. Rogers Silverplate Cranberry Sugar Caster Bowl Spooner with 12 Spoons. Beautiful details and motifs…. Marked under lid: J. Made in USA, Quadruple plate. Circa late 19th century to early 1900′s. Measures 9 inches total height. 8 1/2 inches total width handle to handle. Cranberry thumbprint glass insert measures 2 1/2 in. High by 4 1/2 in wide (has small rim chip see close up picture). 12 spoons each marked Pat 1904 WE Rogers (see picture) spoons are not original to the sugar caster but are very nice spoons that compliment the piece. Each spoon has a script monogram “C” on the handle. Spoons measure 5 3/4 in long. No issues noted to the frame, only a very tiny minimal amount of wear to silverplate nothing that stands out, no dents etc. Use pictures as further description. Please remember that vintage items and antiques will show some type(s) of wear and may have minor imperfections they have acquired through enduring time. Antique and vintage pieces are not new and may show wear and distress from age and use, this only adds to the items’ charm and character. Rogers, Smith & Co. Antique silverplate double spoon holder. These aren’t seen very often! Featuring a tall handle with a garland of flowers connecting the two sides with floral engraved cups for holding spoons. The interiors of the cups appear to have a gold wash. The holder stands of four decorative feet. Age: 1862 to 1877; this is the time period that Rogers, Smith & Co. Had their plant in New Haven. They had previously been in Hartford, Connecticut and after these dates they moved again. Backstamp: Behind one foot: Rogers Smith & Co. ” and numbered behind another foot “1407. Measurements: 12-1/4″ tall; 7-1/4″ across; base is 4 wide. Condition: Very good to excellent condition; Very nice as far as antique silverplate holloware goes. Holder stands firmly without wobbling. Some discoloration on the inside of each spoon cup with some pitting of the metal in the very bottom. I have only very lightly polished this piece so if you like your silverplate completely free of oxidation, you could do a more thorough job. This is a 1926 antique Victorian relish, caviar or sugar serving castor made by Rogers Silver Co. Pieces like this are hard to find! The bottom of the silver lid has Rogers Silver 1926. The castor features a stunning thumbprint blue glass insert. The silver plate, handled base has intricate designs throughout, from the shelled feet to the egret/stork adorned legs. The floral ivy decorated rim has notches for 12 spoons (not included). As can be seen in the pictures, this piece is in excellent condition for its age. As to be expected, there are a few tiny chips and flea bites on the rim of the insert, but they do not detract from the beauty of this piece, as the lid covers them. Some use similar pieces as covered sugars. So, whether you intend to use it for either relish or sugar or decide to simply display it, it’s sure to be a showstopper.
