This is a fabulous Victorian brides basket featuring a very detailed figural Egyption Pharaoh holding up a torch which is the holder for the original Hand Blown Art Glass Mother of Pearl Quilted Herringbone Bowl. The bowl and frame are WONDERFUL!! The bowl fits PERFECTLY in the frame. Great Condition – No Chips, Cracks Or Repairs. Also, no missing silverplate noted. This base bears the Rogers, Smith & Co. Quadruple plate mark for 1857 and the pattern #177. This is an altogether lovely piece that would make a wonderful centerpiece for a table, or a great addition to any art glass collection! The bowl fits perfectly in the frame and it measures approximately 18″ tall when the bowl is in place and approximately 11″ wide. This appears to have been someone’s prized possession and extremely well taken care of! About the Maker: ROGERS, SMITH & CO. Organized in 1857 by William Rogers Sr. The firm was merged in 1861 with Rogers Brothers Mfg Co under the presidency of William Rogers. The tools and the dies were bought in 1862 by Meriden Britannia Co transferring to Meriden the production of the 1847 Rogers Bros line under the direction of William Rogers. In 1863 Meriden Britannia Co bought the hollowware division. In 1865 the plating shop was transferred from New Haven to Meriden and merged with Meriden Britannia Co in 1866.
