A striking 3 piece carving set and case by Joseph Rodgers and Sons Ltd. Sheffield, Cutlers to His Majesty. This maker is known for high quality knives and cutlery. All pieces, (knife, fork and sharpening steel) are stamped with the star and Maltese Cross which was used from 1764 onward. Finding a precise date for this set proved elusive so “vintage” is the most accurate we can be, This set early 1900′s. All of the stag horn handles have a metal end. The outside of the oak wood box in very good, The interior velvet is in fair condition. All pieces show sign of use but are in solid vintage shape without any rust. A top quality antique mahogany Joseph Rogers cutlery canteen chest. In the form of a miniature Chippendale chest of graduated drawers. Veneered in superb quality flame mahogany. Serpentine front with ornate apron and splayed feet. Top opens to reveal sections for cutlery. Two graduated drawers again with original sections. To the top inlaid border of satinwood and ebony. Ornate brass escutcheons, drop handles and back plates. Original brass lock and hinges – no key present. To the internal lid reads Joseph Rogers and sons cutlers to his Majesty Norfolk street Sheffield. Original ivorine labels still present- some are loose. In lovely condition with beautiful colour and pattination, beading missing to the bottom drawer and repair above the escutcheon as per photographs. Stands 14″ high X 18.5″ wide X 14 deep. Very heavy item, collection preferred but will post at your risk. Please see my other items I have for sale.
