Item Description: Pair of B. Rogers Silverplate on copper Square form Trays #6707. Each features an armorial with a banner reading “Major Ab Adversis”, and three animals including a stag and unicorn. Rope twist rims with foliate designs. Weight 6.5 lbs Approx. Measurements: 14.25″ x 14.25″ Condition: Very Good Condition with surface marks and wear consistent with use and age. Some scuffs and scratches, as well as a few minor dngs and shallow dimples. Some wear to the plating especially on the feet. ROGERS SILVERPLATE NURSERY RHYME CHILD’S BOWL and ABC PLATE with the RHYME “HEY DIDDLE DIDDLE” VERSE AND CHARACTERS INSCRIBED ON BOTH PIECES. SEE VIEWS ABOVE GUESS ON AGE CIRCA 1900. ROGERS MARK WAS USED AS EARLY AS 1897. THE BOWL HAS THE ENTIRE VERSE INSCRIBED AROUND THE SIDES, ALONG WITH DEPICTIONS OF THE CAT and the FIDDLE, THE COW JUMPING OVER THE MOON, THE LITTLE DOG LAUGHING, AND THE DISH AND SPOON RUNNING AWAY TOGETHER. “HEY DIDDLE DIDDLE THE CAT AND THE FIDDLE THE COW JUMPED OVER THE MOON THE LITTLE DOG LAUGHED TO SEE SUCH SPORT AND THE DISH RAN AWAY WITH THE SPOON”. THE RHYME HAS BEEN AROUND FOR HUNDREDS OF YEARS, PRINTED IN THIS FORM ABOUT 1765. ONE DING AT THE “U V” AREA ON THE PLATE RIM AND DINGS ALONG THE TOP EDGE OF THE BOWL. METAL PITTING IN THE BOTTOM OF THE BOWL. THIS COULD USE RE-SILVERING OR POSSIBLY A PROFESSIONAL POLISHING? I HAVE TRIED TO CLEAN THIS WITH SIMICHROME (which is the BEST) BUT CAN NOT GET IT ANY BETTER THAN WHAT YOU SEE IN THE VIEWS ABOVE.
